A Major Movie Crasher
A national holiday with closed-down malls and a terribly humid & hot weather outside - I felt a bit guilty that I couldn't find a better way to entertain my visiting friends. Nancy didn't seem to mind staying around the house doing nothing. It's a busy life in China working with a major cooperation and raising a child. Not much time for reflections. She said she hasn't been idling like this for along time, which seems to be the only thing that I do in this part of the world... After we did some more catching-up, we decided to go out for a movie before we were to have our dinner somewhere.
Daddy took the boy to see "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." We girls went to see "Wedding Crashers." I figured it was a comedy. In my mind, a terrible drama would be really terrible. A terrible comedy is still a comedy. If you don't get anything from it, you at least get some laughs, which is what entertainment is mostly about. In fact, "Wedding Crashers" cashed in as No. 1 at the box office last week. How terrible could it be? My friend Abby, the major movie buff, has seen it twice. We almost always see things and people eye to eye. More reasons for the pick? I consider Wilson Owen one of my screen crushes... There is something about him I like a lot.
Having said all these, I meant to prove just one point. That is how disappointed I was by this movie. It even failed to make me laugh -- usually something very easy to do. Nancy commented, "well, it shows me how superficial the life is in North America..." I happen to agree with her on this one. It was a very made-up story line and terribly put together. Without Wilson Owen, I might have walked out. And poor Sienna! A bag of popcorn could only hold her so long. She was making a book in the darkness of the theatre, with safety scissors, paper and tapes. But she didn't whin. She knows a movie theater is not for that even the movie totally crashes.
