Thoughts on Saving
I am busy thinking how to get our visa extended to the maximum time allowed (say a year) before we have to get out of the country for another visa application. Preferably, one of us will need a work permit and the other one can stay as the accompanying spouse. Then I left our marriage license in Canada. I need to go back to get it. In fact, we have tickets scheduled on 27th of this month as our return trip. We will waste it if we don't go. The idea of having to make the trip though, or any trip anywhere, frightens me. Thanks to the husband’s idea, I grabbed a taxi and went to fetch a copy of our marriage certificate at a district achieve in the city. There I found it. The clerk charged me less CND$.50 which practically saved me a round-trip ticket to Toronto and back. To me, saving a trip is priceless and way more important than saving the money.
On another note. The whole family went for a photo shot for visa purpose. At a Kodak photo store, we paid CND$10 for three shots, four passport size prints and plus a CD with the digital files which are good enough to blow up poster-size photos. In Toronto, I remembered, we paid CND$19.00 for each shot of us. No digital original was given. When certain things are so cheap, it explains why you feel should spend CND$700 for cooking pots. You should also afford to eat the live deep ocean fish that costs CND$17 per head. And that's how you end up spending so much more in China than in Canada.
