Super Girl Sienna

Image hosted by Photobucket.comThe impact of Sienna's accident has been devastating emotionally. I kept thinking a hundred of ways that I could have prevented from happening. And I feel the need to suffer a bit myself so that she could suffer less.

In fact though, Sienna displays everything but suffering. She bounced back almost right away. She didn't even have much swelling or pain that was expected. We took her to see the movie Madagascar the next day. She missed school for two days as we wanted to keep her for observation at home.

I am not saying she took it as a treat. At first, she didn't want the cast, "Cinderella doesn't have a cast." And she had reservation about letting her friends at school see her cast. The next day, she seemed to think it through herself. "I am going to surprise them with my cast."

Using her left hand, she drew a big red flower on the cast. Her teacher told us they were very impressed with her independence. Also on the cast, the teacher wrote, "Super Girl Sienna, I am proud of you." Sienna does everything herself with one hand and goes on the playground and everything. She feeds herself and even goes to the bathroom on her own.

Last night we were watching Berenstein Bear. Brother Bear was making an excuse of not going to a baseball game because his arm hurt. I said, "Look, Sienna, he's got a bad arm like yours." She said, ""No, mine doesn't hurt."

The most surprising thing to me in this experience is the way Sienna faces the reality and makes the best out of it. She is truely an amazing soul. The doctor told us, at this age, she will heal quickly and completely... That also gave us peace of mind.
