My iBook and I

A couple of months ago, I got a hand-me-down iBook from my friend. This iBook has been a great friend of mine. Then once in a while, this friend would get sick. The screen would become scrambled or distorted. There would be unexpected lines. I thought it was old and moody. I just let it age and prepared for it's burial.

Then a colleague of mine mentioned there is a notice posted on Apple site about a special repair program. I went there and couldn't believe what I read. All my iBook displayed symptoms are covered. And my iBook's serial number falls right in the effected range. With doubts, I called Apple Care Center. Guess what? My iBook and I got very well taken care of.

I spent an hour and 3 minutes on the phone going through 3 Apple Care specialists. It was time well spent. They were so nice. When they put me on hold, they had cool music on for me and told me to put my speak phone on so that I could go on doing my own things. One guy on the phone kept saying, "we will make it happen for you." He listened to my case including the parts about how I have always been a PC person and how I am just warming up to Mac while this happened to me. They took down my case and made it a case for me. Now with that case number, I am going to a local Apple store to have my iBook fixed like new... Doesn't good service just warm your heart?

With iBook in my bag, I rushed to catch my subway train home. Somehow, I had hard time searching for a ticket inside every pocket of my bag. A guy who was checking tickets at the entrance said to me, "take your time, I am here till 6:30." You see, that's another case of a good service with patience and humor.

Having had a good day receiving good services, I also have to mention the power of information. In today’s world, you need to keep yourself informed, both online and offline. The company posted it's notice on a public site. If I didn't hear it from my colleague, I would never have thought of complaining this to anybody, not to Apple either. My iBook and I would only have a very short-lived friendship.
