Misperceived Persona

A couple of months ago, because of the overstuffing nature of Tim Horton's breakfast sandwich, I went back to the old breakfast habit of bagel + egg + ham. At this mama& papa's place, they always know what I want. So I go in and out there in the morning without saying a word, mostly with my dark sunglasses on. The Korean couple, especially the wife, must have run out of patience trying to figure me out for the past few years. She decided to make her own conclusion and test it out with me. "You, single, not married, no children..." she stated. I was laughing and told her the number of anniversaries we have been celebrating these days. She thought I was in a joking mood. So I turned to my colleague D next to me for affirmation…

People's perception can be so wrong. And it was very interesting to know how I have created such a persona. I probably look like an old and odd woman who lives in the dark shadow of her sunglasses, greets nobody and cares all about her own breakfast and wellfare... I am the opposite image of a happy & devoted wife and mother... I guess I don't have to look like one in order to be the one.
