what's in that "shoe bag"?

i came home and spotted a plaid bag on the stairs with a plastic label attached to it, that reads, "sienna, room 102". looks like and sounds like a shoe bag from a hotel, doesn't it?

as it turned out, it was a book bag that the school passes around. yesterday's bag contains two cute little book with a little note from the teacher, "please read the books to sienna and return them tomorrow." the books are two in a series of several dozens for reading phonetically.

i like the idea of getting parents involved in the learning process. not much pressure for me or her, just enough effort to keep us in the loop. in one book, the captions read, "cat, hat, cat sat, mat." in the other, "cat sat, cat ran to the pan, cat ran to the man, cat ran, ran, ran."

sienna was a little stand-offish about these books. now i am thinking if i was too pushy. i was the one supposed to read to her, not herself, right? still i made her read the two mini books herself, word by word. at the end, she was dancing around, "i win, i win..." in exchange, i read to her 3 times (normally twice) the much more colorful bunny birthday party fiasco of Max & Ruby.

she sleeps with the book on one side and her pink sunglasses on the other.
