Birthdays that Stick Together

Last night, we had a dinner party at Marche's to celebrate Rachel and her Dad's birthdays. She is 10! Her Dad is much much older. I don't think he wants us to get into the topic of his age.

I got Rachel two Hilary Duff's albums. The 17-year-old teen idol has only these two albums out. So Rachel was thrilled to have a full collection of hers. I wanted to give Raymond a U2 CD, the Super Audio version. But I couldn't make myself clear as what that was at HMV or Music World. So I went for a gift card. As it turned out, only Best Buy had it. For a deaf to the music, how do I know?

First I came home with a birthday card for Rachel. Beautiful smiley faced yellow flowers with 3D effect. Sienna didn't want to give it to Rachel.

Sienna: It's so beautiful. I want to keep it. I am going to hide it... I am going to hold it tight.
Mommy: (I kept cool and let her beg to keep the card without fighting with her.) No, you cannot. It's for Rachel. You can keep it today. Just keep it clean.
Sienna: Can I keep it? I want write my name on it.
Mommy: You do need to write your name on it. It's from us to Rachel.
Sienna: Can I keep it for my birthday?
Mommy: Mommy said "No." I will get you yours on your birthday. If you don't take that as an answer, we can talk about it tomorrow again.

I knew it. This morning, I had absolutely no problem reclaiming the card for Rachel from Sienna. "I'm doing something new," she said. She signed her name with huge cursive letters across the card.

Sienna cannot wait for March to come. She keeps singing her "months of the year" song. And it takes forever for the time to roll into March when she and Dad will have their birthdays, a few days apart. As I found out so many kids around us have birthdays with their Mom or Dad in the same month or in fact, the same astrological sign: Rachel with her Dad in Februry. Howard with his mom in December. Dylan with his Mom in June. Jordan with his Mom in April. Amy with her Mom in December... the list just goes on and on...
