My Lawyer Friend

Almost a year and half ago, a 10-year-old Chinese girl was taken from her bedroom in the middle of the night by an intruder. Four months later, her decompased body was found near the city. She became the most popular 10-year-old girl in the city of Toronto when thousands of the people were out searching for her. Now the cops caught the suspect and a preliminarily hearing is right under way next month for his trial...

Now, this is not the news. The news is, as I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday, I found out that he is going to be one of the 3 lawyers on the defense team on the case This friend, J, landed in Canada around the same time as me. I was working my summer job at a law firm. He was going something that had nothing to do with the law. I introduced J to replace me when I went back for my graduate study. He went on from there to get his law degree and started his own practice later on.

I am a trial watching folloing every major crime stories in the media. It's pretty exciting to hear my friend is involved in a major case like this. But I won't expect him to give me any scoope other than what is in the media already. Just wish I could be selected as a juror, a chance equivalent of winning a lottery.
