Girls-Only Valentine's Cards

I took Sienna out to get some last-minute Valentines' cards. At the first place we went in, all was gone. At the second place, only some boxes of Winnie the Pooh were on the shelf. Without a choice, we picked up one box and proceeded to the cashier. Then we found at a shopping cart, a box of "Cinderella" cards. It looked like one of the abandoned goods that were left by people who changed their mind. The box was open and put back on. We both decided that we were going to pay for this one.

Coming back, Sienna started to sign her name on these cards. I heard her talking to herself, "what do I give to the boys?" I regretted that we didn't get the Winnie Pooh box as well... I started counting her signed cards and realized that the box had been salvaged by someone. At least half of the 32 cards were taken out. She had counted by heart earlier there are 26 kids in her class including herself. "We don't have enough cards for all kids," I said. A pause. Sienna said, "It's ok, Mommy, I only give them to the girls..."

I absolutely love the kind of flexibility she has in her as well as in our family. It's nice that things are certain way. It's ok if they aren't. It's nice to celebrate holidays. But everyday is worth celebrating.
