Memory of Shanghai
Without the pressure from a new year’s resolution, I have successfully de-clustered a few areas of our house. Refrigerator became nearly an empty space. I am so pleased. I tried to recall how it was like when I grew up and there was not a fridge in the house. We had a market nearby and all the shops, all within a walking distance. And now since I have the time, I can drive to supermarkets within minutes. I should use less fridge and get more fresh food.
So one major improvement around the house is that we are eating a lot more seafood. I am searching all kinds of recipes for fish. One day I cooked cod fish with yogurt and coriander based on an online recipe. Last night, I had in hand a few pieces of so-called whitefish steaks. Creativity struck. I marinated with a bit fish source and soy source, sprinkled with some Cajun and placed a thin layer of smoked pork on the top. I steamed the plate with garlic, ginger and green onion. It was out of this world! We loved it! The smell and the taste brought back my fond memories of Shanghai.
