Thinking about an Elementary School

Thursday night, I took Sienna to a silent auction event with S and her daughter C. C’s elementary school is ranked No.1 among the province’s 2,800 schools. They try every possible way to get parents to pay more for its equipments and extra curriculum activities. Some brand new goods, mugs, computer games, bed sets… are donated by the parents and then placed out to be bid by the parents in the auction. You can even bid for your favorite teacher to come out and have lunch with you at your own cost of course. Reminds me of the escort business or something. The intention is good. So I tolerate the means. Sienna had good time playing all sorts of games with C. We made it back around 8:30pm. It was a good mid week outing for her – at least there was no piano.

I was tempted to think if we should try to get Sienna in that school if we ever decide to go the public route. S said her husband, a big potato for a big corporation, contributed tonight’s pizza parlor. I asked, "Hey, do they ever want paintings? I have paintings." S laughed. Too much thinking for me. Sienna’s school is already asking for the September’s elementary registration. How could I think so far? I don’t even know what I will be doing next week. If we stick to the private system, I don’t want to continue with Montessori. But where else to go? What appeals to me the most is the uniform thing. When you go to the private school, I will have so much trouble fight with Sienna about what to wear and what not to wear.
