Babysitting a 12-year-old
We repeated last Sunday’s theme, almost - Rachel came to stay over because her Mom is still out of the country. Sienna requested that she wanted to go to Olivia’s house. I was thinking Rachel who just turned 12 was going to be mingling with her teenage friends now. Now it was Sienna who wants her own time with her buddies. Rachel is a brainy girl. She eats quite a bit of junk food, not in our house though except the McDonald I took her and Sienna to, and watches a lot of junky TV. She absorbs and then spits out short stories on her blog.
We sat side by side on the computer. I was on my PC, she was on my Mac. MSN Messanger with her name logged on kept popping up on me. At one point of time, I replied, "stop talking to yourself, Rachel has left the building. Rachel’s Aunt here." She rushed over to add, "Ignore her, My Aunt is insane." So I wrote back, "Rachel is insane because I need my PC and she is my Mac and MSN is broken on MSN."
"So Rachel, ‘comply’ means cooperate, right?" I asked. "How do you describe the thing that comes out of your mouth when it’s cold?" she asked. "Let’s google it," I said.
She also tried today search for card tricks all over the internet. The first trick did tricked me through the visual confusion. The second trick she performed required her to put her baggy jacket on. She showed me there was nothing in her pocket, nothing. Sure. Then I, being the audience, was asked to shuffle the cards whichever way and as many times as I wanted. Then she put the deck into one of her pocket. She promised to pick four cards there and they were supposed to make a set. She felt her hand inside with much effort. I said, "Rachel, are they stuck in your sleeves?" She went, "yeah..." She is still a child, a lovely child.
