Ahyi's Day Off

It's been 9 days since Sienna and I came home to my parents'. We probably had 3 dinners prepared by Ahyi (Chinese name for "House Maid") at home. The rest of the time, we ate at restaurants. Still when Ahyi is having her day off today, my mother was like, "what do we do now? Where are we going for lunch and dinner?"

I read reports about how some urban families followed their Ahyis back to their home town when they took their time off during the Chinese Spring Festival. My mother's family didn't follow their Ahyi, they went on a road trip on their new Nissan sports wagon. Part of the reason was they didn't need to cook or clean.

Around lunch time, my brother drove me to get some paintings from the framer. We went through the city's only drive-through MacDonald's. I got my coffee and Sienna got her MacNuggets. When we got home, my mother was waiting for us with a bunch of food from Disco, a Taiwan version of KFC. For dinner, of course, we dinned outside. The difference was we went by choice before. Today, we had to because Ahyi is having her day off. Who says only kids can get spoiled? Urban people in China are completely spoiled by cheap labor.
