Inter-continental Roaming
I forwarded our house phone to my cell phone and forgot to turn it off when I left Canada. The cell phone still rings in China. I know it costs much to take a call in a roaming state. Yet I cannot resist my curiosity. I picked up a few calls including 15-year-old J asking questions about his school project, a friend making a dinner plan with us. The best news I got was my cousin giving birth to a little baby boy on the 19th. Then the rest I only checked the numbers.
Last night, I forgot to silence the ring and got waken up by a call. It was a recording message saying something about the money that I owe that could lead to discontinuity of my service. I immediately thought of my phone service. I called back the number. It was in fact the hot water tank rental company. I didn’t pay the $38 rental fee. I remember myself saying something, “Geez, take the money. I am paying it.” “But how?” asked the other party. So in the middle of the night, I gave them the credit card number to settle the deal. Here is the question open for debate – just how the technology helps us or creates us trouble in our life.
