A Cold Could be the Cold’s Fault
It took my whole adult life to get used to the notion that a cold is a virus infection and not caught while you are in the cold. I still tend to believe that you should keep warm to keep yourself away from a cold. This part of my grandma’s wisdom has recently been proved by an article on NY Times that says yes flu does have everything to do with cold. The flu virus stays in the air longer and stronger when the air is cold and dry. No wonder I recalled the moments in the past when I literally felt being hit by it out in the open air in the middle of the winter cold and fell sick right afterwards. These experiences had created resistance towards my acceptance of the Western medical notion that cold and crispy air is good for us to stay healthy.
The thing is the article talks about the flu. My limited knowledge tells me flu and cold are different virus infections with similar symptoms and only vary in degree. I cannot tell what I had were flu or cold. Let’s wait till more research results to come out. If it’s called a cold, it’s got to have something to do with the cold, I assume. Grandma is always right. It takes time for people in science to get the proof for her.
