Dinner-Over-TV Privilege
At the "Mother Board" (BBS board at "parentscenter.com" for mothers with kids born in March 2001), we are discussing how to keep the little ones at the dinner table before the dinner is finished. We don't have this problem. Sienna can sit to begin with. She worn out the plastic cover of a brand-new hight-chair and now she still sits on another high chair, a wooden one passed down by a friend. She wouldn't move until she is removed.
Besides her settling nature and the food, there is another important thing that keeps Sienna at the dinner table. We keep a TV set right in front ot us and it's on during the whole course of the meal. I know this is bad. Just don't know how bad it could be as it works for us. I figured she spends the whole day at school. This is her only time for TV. Let's just let her. From very early on, she watched with us everyday "Seinfeld" and "Entertainment Tonight." Now she is tuned to the preschool channel "tree house". TV set is the extension of the dinner table, that's her version of reality. If she is distracted and not eating, i push the "mute" botton on the remote control, that will her get back to her food.
And speaking of food, she is such a good eater. That's probably why her dinner-over-TV privilege isn't likely to be removed any time soon. Since she loves puzzle solving and book reading, I have no problem getting her move on to these activities as parts of her bedtime routine.

hello, mrs tweety, in this part of the world, children won't starve, they get stuffed. look at chloe's chappy cheek, do you have to worry about her not eating? if she doesn't like to eat, let her skip a meal or two, give her nothing in between until the next regular meal time. that's what i did with sienna.
to me food is love. but sometimes we have to apply tough love. i will write about this on my post sometime.
