Long Live Low-Rise Pants!
We all have fashion limits. I only pick up certain trends, often quite reluctantly, to work within the limits of my body and style. The emergence of the low-rise pants in the late 90s though was something that I embraced whole-heartedly. I am grateful it became so popular for so long that I could catch it and benefit from it in my life time. It only had it's very brief moment in the hippie subculture in the 60s.
Like many other women, I am conscious about how I look. I don't worry about things that cannot be improved without going through a surgical alteration, that is not an option to me. I do worry about my little imperfections, things that I can do to look better, and feel better at the same time. So I exercise a little self-control everyday so that I never have to worry about putting on weight or having to do exercise to lose weight. The major concern is not to show my tummy, especially when I don't have enough other assets to show off. Now, in a pair of low-rise pants, I have a completely flat tummy, from the perspective of me looking down standing, at least.
There is much talk about how this low-rider style has gone too far. They refer to the multiple folds of skin and G-strings that some women display for the world. My low-rise pants only cover my tummy at the right height without flashing my tummy or anything fleshy.
Vogue Magazine declared low-rise pants over in May 2002. But luckily it's not as of today. I have changed my entire wardrobe to contain only low-rise pants and jeans and skirts. I hope it never goes away, otherwise it would be aesthetically, psychologically and financially devastating for me.
