Rambling Thoughts On Balance
On the "mother board" (a message posting board) where I virtually belong to, there is a discussion about how to cope with stress and achieve balance. I've vowed sometime in my life to myself not to give stress a chance to stand in my way of fully enjoying what life has to offer. For that reason, I practice something I dubbed as "pessimistic optimism", or "optimistic pessimism". Cannot see much difference between these two terms.
=== I only try to achieve what seems to be attainable, specific and in a short-term. This way, I can enjoy more the sense of accomplishment.
=== In any situation, I carefully hope for the best but very well prepare for the worst. More often than not, things turn out to be better than I expect. And the best can be made out of even the worst situation.
=== I give my time a lot of space. If something bothers me, I try to ask if that will matter the same way one week, one month or a year or two later... Usually it won't. And that thought will help me not to be bothered so much for now. Time will fix and heal... I respect it's power...
=== I give my space a lot of time, both physical and mental space. Don't let others' ideas (no matter how sacred) of what is right what is wrong interfere with myself. Accept that everything is absolutely relative and situational. Don't let too many activities of cultural or political meanings tempt myself. Time well spent usually is the time wasted doing nothing meaningful.
=== Don't take myself so seriously. I don't have a mission in this world except to grow and to experience... Constantly I look at myself as a third person, as a baby or a child. This way, I will know what to do with myself better. Be strict, be gentle, be forgiving, especially, be patient... Be my own parent, protector, disciplinarian and audience... so give myself a lot of love...
=== Don't try to be whom I am supposed to be or do what I am supposed to do. Rules for being a good friend, a good mother, a good wife or a good anything are again relative. Do only what I feel like doing, this way I will have very little expectation as what the other person should be doing in return.
=== Always watch how other people live their life. Talk and listen. Believe that the answer to my problem lies in common sense and I just need to take time to find it...
So I posted my rambling thoughts for sharing. No serious advice here.
