Beautiful Life, Here & There
Friends, more friends. We got another one flying in today. Li used to live in Toronto. He would come to visit us often. I cooked dinner. He ate and commented, "Life is beautiful!" -- every time. About a year ago, Li and his family went to live in Shanghai, where he works as some kind of Asian Reginal manager for a big American cooperation. Life sounds a lot more beautiful for him these days: nannies, personal driver on call 24/7, masseur... Because of huge & cheap labour forces coming out of the country's vast rural areas, you can afford to enjoy an incredible amount of personal services there. It's something for the very rich few here in the North America. With a bit of irony, I asked, "So how many nannies do you have?... how are you fostering your kido's indenpendence?" While we are truely happy for him, I am envious too, especially the masseurs part...
We took him to a Korean restaurant. Sienna refused to go first because she was still into her straw + beads project. Daddy had to pack the whole gear, the beads and tapes, in order to get her out of the house. And she continued to work on the table. I had a medium sake all to myself. At the end of the dinner, I felt good enough to say, "wow, Life is beautiful!"
