Last Day of the Year

I spent the morning in my study the scented candle burning. Around noon, I dropped Lui and the kids (Sienna and Rachel) at a movie theater. It was a wrong theater as we intended to go. But it was better for our timing. They started right away a 3 and half hour fun with "King Kong". What made it even more fun was that I didn’t have to be part of it. I had plenty of time before and after my singing lesson. And yet, as soon as I drove away from them, I realized that I didn’t have my cell phone with me.

I call myself a techy person. I was the first among my friends to go online. Now I work and live on the internet. I spend most of my waking hours on the so-called information highway. I feel the urge to search by keyword when I pick up a book. That’s how bad I am. I got my hands on a gadget almost as soon as it came into existence, a scanner, digital camera or a cell phone, of course. Our house phone has all the phone services that the company has to offer even though we never use most of them. Without a recognized need to use a cell phone, I had it anyways years ago. I still insist that I could live without it. How? Today I got an experience of how… I felt I wanted to talk to myself without my cell phone.

Fortunately, I didn’t have to talk to myself – a clear indication of being out of one’s mind. I could sing by myself! I sang my heart out inside my car admits a snowstorm. Along the way, I also did my shopping for tonight’s dinner for our two families.

Despite the snowstorm, it turned out to be a fine day for the last day of the year.
