Role of Non-Role-Model Mother
I somehow decided a parent, especially me, doesn't have to be their children's role model. I have been proven right again this time. "She is the role model in the class..." that was what Sienna's teacher had to say at the teacher/parent conference this afternoon, along with many other compliments.
Even on her first school report card at age of 3, the teacher commented that Sienna was very aware of what is right and what is wrong. I knew she would be like this when we got closer to the moment when she took the first breath: She has a high moon in Capricorn (astrologically).
No matter how hard I try, I can never be a better citizen than my daughter. She obeys the laws and rules, naturally. She is the one who reminds me not to touch stuff on the shelf at the store and not to let the water run when I brush my teeth.
I have other roles to play even I don’t intend to be her role model. I am here to help her see the relativism of laws and rules. "Rules are there to be broken" is likely part of my teaching, for example. "It's boring to be perfect" is another... these would come very naturally to me. And they are as important as the laws and rules.
