Truth about Being Charitable
I drove all the way, carrying several garbage bags of old clothes resulting from a recent closet clean up, only to find the Goodwill donation drop off spot was closed. I had to drive the car load to Sienna’s school and back.
“Mommy, what are in these bags?”
“Some of my old Clothes.”
“What for?”
“I am going to give them to the poor people.”
“Are the poor people naked?”
… …
I laughed and explained to her. The poor people are the ones who have less than what you have. By the end of the conversation, she sums up the naked truth of being charitable, “if I have a hundred dollars, and someone else has 20, I should give some of mine to them.” Not many people can be this charitable. Sending some old clothing over to the poor people should not be considered as an attempt to be charitable. I only give people what I don’t want. It’s really not out of the one hundred that I have.
