End of an Era

Before the summer vacation started, I went to see one of Sienna’s English teachers. The school hired the teacher, a non-Chinese who was born and grew up in UK, to reinforce their English curriculum. She showed me this book apparently she used a lot in the classroom and encouraged me to get this series for Sienna as home reading materials. “Don’t be fooled by the title,” she said. I decided not to. So I ordered the books on amazon.com, shipped to an address in Chicago and asked our neighbors to bring them to Beijing.

The teacher is right. The book is a mini encyclopedia, only more interesting and age appropriate. I started reading the book to Sienna at the bed time. We have covered sections that talked about plants, animals and science. She knows a lot of things it talks about. This just gives her a chance to review, like putting the apples she already picked into the basket. We don’t do any princess stories anymore. This could well be the end of an era. Farewell to princesses and all the yawn-inducing bed time stories about them.
