Talk Around the Town

Nations are members of a small community. Now the Olympics Games is. All of a sudden, the host country China, an increasingly prominent neighbor, emerged to further prove its valid status in spots with the most gold medal count. People start talking.

Some people say the gold medal count doesn’t count. It’s the total medal count, gold, silver and bronze counted all together, that should leave US still the lead of all the nations. Here is a web-circulated drawing that views the medal counts from a different perspective, with certain type of measurements.

China looks like a overly busted woman and US a very pregnant one. Russian is the under age girl. But it is China that is suspected to have some under age problems. People talk about how those Chinese women gymnasts don’t look 16, the qualified age for the competition. Seriously, they look 14 or even younger. I understand that. Countless times, I have been asked for ID when I purchased alcohol in Canada. Feeling flattered, I told the suspecting person, “You know, my daughter could have been the age that you suspected me to be.”

Having said that, I won’t be surprised if it was proven true those young-looking girls are under age. Nations are like people. They have their share of human flaws. Also China has problems with its human rights like every nation having their problems of same or different kinds. People also say the athletes have no life in China. They are drugged, mentally at least, and driven by their national interests to go through inhumane trainings… …

People talk when there is a new trend. China has spent over $40 billion for the event. It’s hard to tell the long-term effect of this biggest commercial that has ever been made. At least, China has become talk of the town.
