Eat Like a King, or an Emperor
Our friends who came for the O Games from Shanghai and from San Francisco took time out to “eat like a king” with us at an imperial eatery. This unlikely place houses a restaurant without a sign but with a big name. The ancestor of the restaurant’s founder were said to be a cook for the last emperor of China. That’s what got its big name. And they have really good, homey and pricy food to back up its name. You have to reserve days or even weeks in advance to get in. Once you get in, they don’t take your order. You eat what they put on the table.
After a hearty feast, we all came back to watch the Olympic closing ceremony – a nice way to say goodbye to each other. Early tomorrow morning, all of them are going to depart to different parts of the worlds. They are the last bunch of our guests for the summer. We will expect a sister/brother team in September and a couple in October. I would expect more down time if I ran a hotel business in Beijing. For me, this is no business, but all pleasure.
