my daughter is becoming my mama
ok, these are some of the scenerios. i heat up her food in the microwave. the microwave door will have to be shut before sienna would take the plate from me. if i leave a mop leaning against the sink, she would move it to a corner and say, "here is the place, mama. you forogt." when i leave the house, she would remind me, "mama, did you lock the door?" if she utters softly, "car key?" i surely forgot the car key on the kitchen table behind me. one day, i took a sip of water and placed the cup on the table. sitting next to me, sienna moved the cup a few inches inside, away from the edge of the table, without saying a word...
one morning, sienna went into her bathroom "i have a beautiful bathroom," said she. then she discovered that the waste basket in her bathroom was emptied. "we need to place a bag in there," she acknowledged. she went on to have her breakfast and watched some tv. about an hour and half later, she was walking towards her bathroom with a plastic shopping bag in her hand. she put the bag inside the waste basket and flipped the top part around the edge like we would do. she murmured to herself, "mama forgot it." i am not going into the whole thing about how she is my walking shopping list.
sienna constantly watches out for herself and others around her to avoid trouble. she has acute sense of the possible cause and effect, even in her play. one day, she was cooking up a storm on her little stove set while i was cooking across the kitchen. "i need to go pee," she started to run. suddenly at the door, she stopped and turned around, "i need to turn off my stove first."
on the road, if she notices that i drive a little too fast than usual, she would give out warnings, "slow down, mama. no rush." all the way, she gives her timely instructions: "red light, mama." and "stop sign, mama... now you go!" "we follow olivia (friend's car in front of us. going to playground together). be careful. don't bump into their car!" once on a parking lot, i was reading a newspaper which i placed on top of the hood. there she went again, "mama, when you drive away, newspaper's going to fall off."
she is very observant even she she doesn't seem to be watching. she knows exactly when and where to come in and be part of the cooperative efforts. my parents are visiting these days. grandpa was carrying a bucket of water towards the door, sienna called out, "grandpa, grandpa..." grandpa stopped, sienna ran up and opened the door for him. yesterday, grandma came home and ran upstairs. sienna called out again, "grandma, grandma, here here..." grandma turned around and realized that sienna'd just read her mind and found her slippers she was looking for downstairs!
sienna is so concerned about my feelings. sometimes it makes me feel guilty. she watches a lot of tv on "tree house", a cable channel devoted to pre-schooler prorams. i complaint that she watched too much and i said some of the programs were simply lousy, "franklin the turtle" and "bubba (?)", for example. i also named a few programs that i liked. she took notice of my likes and dislikes. if something that she knows that i don't like is on, she would rush to comfort me, "mommy, it's going to be over soon." or "mommy, other things coming after it...." and she gets so excited when something i mentioned i like is on, "mama, mama, 'max and ruby', your favourite!" she would remember to ask for my comments later, "did you like it?" i wanted to be honest, "i was reading, so i didn't watch much of it." so the next time when "max and ruby" is on, she would remind me, "mama, don't read this time. you're going to miss it again..."
so i conclude my daughter sienna is becoming my "mama", big time.
