A Silent Reader
We missed the line-up to have a year-end conference with the teacher. Last Thursday, I called to chat with Mrs. A for about 10 minutes. I thanked her for her good work guiding and taking care of Sienna. Then I asked about her observation of Sienna's personality or anything. Mrs. A said that Sienna seems to be more comfortable and confident with math works around the school. When it comes to ready, she is already on 4 letter words and knows many many words.
But she is still reluctant to utter the sounds right out loud. Exactly what I have been observing. When I read to her, she expects me to read from the beginning to the end, quietly. If I point to the words, for example, "big hug" and ask "how do you say? what does it mean?", she gives a look of "don't like to be bothered." When pressed, she leans over and gives me a hug.
The other night, I was reading to her a new book while moving my finger word by word. I read something like, "she blew a kiss into the park..." Sienna went, "No, it's DARK." So the only time she would even open her mouth is to correct me?!
The truth is "the late talker" of ours is still not a talker after all. She is extremely economical with her words and use them precisely. If one word is enough, she wouldn't use another. If she could get away without saying a word, she will.
And let's not forget she is a real trilingual person, 3 languages going on right now on a daily basis.
