Destructive Thoughts

After having had my chicken teriyaki for lunch, I was walking over across the street to do my little banking. The street was packed with people and police - a demonstration was on. I mingled in, walked a few yards with them and stepped onto the curb on the other side. I couldn’t read any of the badly made banners except one. It read, “poverty is the best weapon for mass destruction." Uh, I just rubbed shoulders with the city’s poorest and most helpless crowd.

I had an urge to sit down with them and ask who would be the one to porcess that weapon, the government? People who are rich? Or people who suffer the poverty themselves? I want to know what kind of solution they are looking for to end their poverty. How would a demonstration contribute to finding that solution?

I personally think if I am poor like them for whatever reason, if I don’t have enough food to feel myself and my kid, I will be seriously looking for solutions. To steal is definitely an option for me, but to go on a demonstration is not. To demonstrate that you are poor is to make other people who are not so poor feel better about themselves. It cannot make you feel better, let alone make your life any better.
