Recounts
In the past two months without much blogging, a few things clearly marked Sienna's progress in different fields. Let's not let them pass unaccounted for.
Around the Town
Like previous summer, I took Sienna to a daycare near my office for the month of July. Since now Sienna is over 5 years old, at extra cost, she could go on trips with other kids at the center everyday to different parks and facilities. We are home buddies hard to get out of the house. This provides good opportunities for Sienna to explore what the city has to offer for the kids. She enjoyed them but she was not particularly enthusiastic about them. Once she refused to go to the zoo. The reason? "It's stinky." Clearly not an animal lover.
In the pool
Last summer, Sienna refused to consider the possibility of getting in the water even though her best friend Olivia started her lesson then. This year, I was not in rush to get her started. Three weeks ago, a friend took her kids swimming. I decided to tag along bringing Sienna and Rachel. I couldn't believe this: For the second time in her life, Sienna went into a pool (first time when she was 9 months old) and she acted like she was playing on a playground. She acted like she had been going to all those classes we missed to climatize her with the water. She even dived her head into the pool. I was so proud of her. Largely, the presence of the 11-year-old Rachel made a difference. I have been taking the two kids to the swimming pool for three consecutive weekends. Sienna uses a floater. Her both feet were off the bottom of pool.
On the keyboard
Sienna is progressing on the right track. She can now play with each hand hitting different keys at the same time. I am graduately out of the loop. Sometimes she already plays the whole piece, I would still be looking for the note. She didn't do it without difficulty either, especially when she has to handle a new piece. She spends time resisting it emotionally, then she gets it like she always knew how. She has got good hearing, precise tone and excellent sense of tempo.
Over the Sky
I heard there was going to be a shortest distance between Mars and earth this month in thousands of years. I replayed the news to Sienna, "Mars is going to be as bright and as big as the Moon." Sienna thought for a while and asked , "Mommy, each planet has it's own orbit. How can Mars go off to be so close to the sun?" I had to say, "well, it beats me. I will have to answer your question later." I was going to figure it out and then I heard that was not ging to happen an ways.
