My Mother's Business

My mom and dad runs a business that can be called, simply, as "life". And we have one religion, that's food. The biggest event of the year is their wedding anniversary. Every year on this occasion, they celebrate, with food, their love for each other. There are always other reasons for the celebration. Today, we are also celebrating our little family's return from overseas and the pass of my mother's health scare.

We don't particularly have many relatives, but in their life time, they accumulated so many friends: from where they worked and lived. In an event like this one, they could easily gather over a hundred people as their guests. The routine of such celebration takes a whole day. It starts 9am sharp with about 10 tables of Mahjong games at a rented facilities. Then there is a break for a simple lunch at a restaurant. After that, the game goes on in the afternoon and then comes the big dinner party.

My mother told me today that she doesn't believe in leaving the money for her kids, but she dose believe in spending the money together with them. She finds all kinds ways just to do that. She is a remarkable woman, not for what a woman has to suffer but for the way she enjoys her life. My friend used to tell me, "Everybody would want a mother like yours. And she is your mother! How lucky you are!"
