Two Ends of the Spectrum
After an absence of a year, I am back in Beijing. This time, I also brought the whole family, the husband as well as the daughter. The first thing I did was rushing to have my hair washed and my shoulders massaged -- always the perk of my trip to China. It was an hour of devoted service for less than 3 bucks in Canadian money. I totally enjoyed it, not without a touch of guilt feelings.
At night, we were invited to a dinner at a restaurant within a walking distance to the Tiananmen Square. The guy paid an equivalence of CND$1,200 for the meal of 6. I wonder how many hours the boy doing my hair has to work in order to ever afford a meal like that.
