Charm of Chives

Chive is an aromatic and exotic green onion like plant. We people from the south use it as seasoning in our cuisine. I love to eat abundance of it. Yet it's so very easy to overcook them. The husband from the north revealed one day how they make "chives box," that would make the best out of chives. He brought to our marriage 11 cook books that started the making of a proud cook like me. Doing his part of the work, now he went on the internet and got me a chive box making flowchart in color photos. The key in making chives box, he stressed, is to make sure it’s sealed completely. This way, chives are cooked gently by the heat of the steam inside. And you protect their tenderness and flavor. This sounded like a big task for a southern girl like me who could not wrap a dumpling together without leaving some unnecessary holes. They say the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. I went all the way out for chives box, considering it's also my own heart and stomach at stake.

The stuff to go inside is always my strength. I mixed fresh shrimps and dried shrimps, scrambled eggs, some minced pork and chives, of course. I used the whole wheat flour that probably what made the task even more challenging. The first box was like being wrapped by a piece of carpet. After throwing away three of them, I was on my way to perfection. We had a hearty meal on our first trial. However, it's still taking time to please Sienna' heart.
