Twist of the Day

Sienna summer Chinese camp is over. The preschool won’t start until next Tuesday. I sent her again to the daycare near my office for the week. Today, they had a party to say “good bye” to the summer. She found the best reason to wear a white-laced dress. With a bit of persuasion, I got to put a white cable sweater on the top. At the daycare, I hang the sweater on a rack towards the end of the wall. Over lunch time, I enjoyed my last chance of luxury to spending a mid-day hour with Sienna. I put the white sweater back on her when I took her for a walk. She had her treat, a vanilla/chocolate ice cream twist from an ice cream truck we passed by. The wind blew and the chocolate part of the twist stained her white sweater. I didn’t give it much thought. That was nothing unexpected, right?

When we came home in the evening, I got an unexpected phone call from the daycare. The white sweater Sienna was wearing at lunch time and coming home with turned out to be someone else’s. They are the same white color, the same cable pattern, the same cotton material, the same size and from the same store. Somehow they were hanging up on the same section of the rack. The only difference is theirs has a pink lining on the inside of the collar. I did take note of that and even blamed myself for never noticing it before.

If I were the parent, I would just let go. Sienna only wore hers twice the most. Kids grow out of their clothes so fast. But the mother wants theirs back. That means I have to drop it off for exchange next Tuesday. The bigger trouble is Sienna soiled the sweater with chocolate twist and I will have to find a way to get the stains off. If not, I will have to buy a new one. I would be pleased to do that. Just hope they don’t demand identical one. What a twist of the day!
