Modern Age, Modem Age and Beyond

I'm declaring a completion of a series of technology upgradings around the house.

1) Upgrading the whole home alarm system, 3 new motion sensors, 2 new keypads and a monitored smoke detector
2)Switching internet from cable to DSL
3)Going for satellite dish
4)Replacing my cell phone
... ...

I asked myself these few questions along the way. For example, why do we need to have the alarm system while the husband works from home? Well, we do all leave the house to grocery stores and to the movie theater together, all of us. We are in fact planning a family getaway. Let's have a three year contract and get security guards and police men stand by.

How does DSL different from cable? See, the question makes up the very reason why I want to try DSL and find out. The cable-DSL transfer proved to be a terrible experience. At one point of time, we had to go back to dial-up modem for a week. A couple of days ago, I was calling the satellite guy, using alarm guy’s phone number by accident... All is wired and hooked. I am sitting here pondering if technology is here to help our life easier, or it is something we human beings create just to keep our life troubled.
