The Cost of One Ferrero Rocher Ball
We are experiencing some reluctance coming back from the holiday sluggishness. Preparing for today's piano and Chinese home work, Sienna put up a fight resisiting practicing. She is most verbal and eliquent when it comes to complaining. "You are a very very very mean mother... You broke my heart... I don't want to practice piano... I have played XX times. I remember it. I have a great memory, Mommy. We should return the piano to the store... My hands are weak... They fell asleep... I cannot see the notes... I cannot see anything... I just cannot do it... I cannot do it, mommy... I wish I am a superman so that I don't have to do the piano thing... I don't like to practice... " If she went shouting and screaming without saying anything, I would have given in to prevent her from too much repression. All I could see is this amazing little girl of mine giving a good display playing out her energy and looking for a way to be easy. Recognizing this was not the best time to change her attitude or teach her the right manner, I sat there and stuck to the rules. At the end of it, she followed through her practice. I applauded and Daddy applauded from somewhere in the house.
This morning Sienna had problem finishing her Chinese too. She is behind with her home work because of one month absence and my laziness of getting her to it. She whinned again. At one point, I said," you whinned, and you just cost yourself your chocolate." And that was what I stuck to throughout the whole day. Only after her smooth piano practice in the evening, she finally got her Ferrero Rocher ball, just one of them. She ate it one layer at a time...
Sienna's new electronic piggy bank now reads a total of $92.67. She worked for it by collecting the coins and putting them in. In order to have more money, she discovered the need to sell. "When you buy, you have to give the money, when you sell, you only get the money..." she explained. She is looking for sellable things around the house. Through her piano and home work, without a word, I am showing her that hard work is a pretty sure thing to sell, anywhere and any time. The earlier she discovers this connection, the better.
