In Her Mini Society

Finally it was my turn on the waiting list. I got a 45-minute session for sitting in Sienna's class. There with me was another kid's mother. We were not allowed to talk to the kids, just sitting andwatching. I was amazed by the power of system, the Montessori system, in this case. More than 20 kids behaved more orderly and quietly than the same number of adults on the office floor I used to work. They each carried out their own activities, either writing, reading books or doing math with specially designed tools... ... Even one kid who rolled around doing nothing like a monkey was not trying to interfere with other kids. Each took turn to talk to the two teachers. One kid finished something but couldn't put the stuff back into a flannel bag. He went to the teacher who turned around and said, "Sienna, could you please help E." Sienna did. E, the boy who was much younger than Sienna followed Sienna to put the bag back onto the shelf, "I tried and tried..." he murmured. Amazing, amazing!

Back home, I told Daddy all about it. "I really want to go back there," I said. "Do you mean I have to pay for another fee?" he asked.
