How to Be a Popular Six Year Old

Sienna gets along well with everybody, literally. How?

Here is an example. Today, we went on a trip together with E, another kid from her class and his mom to 1,000 Islands. 3 hours of bus ride each way plus an hour boat ride – great way to let the time pass. E’s mom now realized what I told her about how that snacking is such a big part of Sienna’s life. She asks for snack minute to minute. I gave the two kids Tube Yogurt, one raspberry flavored and the other grape flavored. Sienna picked raspberry flavored, her favorite. E took the grape one, he didn’t seem to be into either one. Seeing his reluctance, Sienna took back grape from him and gave him her own raspberry flavored, apparently in the hope that her favorite flavor will boost E's interest in the yogurt...

E's mom took notice of Sienna's doing and commented about how considerate Sienna is. This is a piece of evidence that could be added to my research about how my daughter is such a Miss Popularity among her peers. Like other kids of her age, Sienna knows what she wants and tries to get what she wants. However, she knows a bit more for her age about how to consciously make a compromise instead of fighting for the moment to win or giving in helplessly. She has this ability to make everybody feel that s/he is special because she has his or her interest in her mind. When we had dinner with J and his mom Friday night, J's mom told me that she heard from E’s dad that Sienna was popular. He told me one time that Sienna was the friend his son kept mentioning at home. On that morning when we were setting out to go on the field trip, the teacher was making arrangement to divide kids into different groups. A kid went up to the teacher checking for herself, “am I in Sienna’s group?” Two days ago, I got a phone call from a mother of another kid who is vacationing thousands of miles away with her family. She missed her friends and wanted to talk to Sienna!
