the Earth Got Angry

Not my usual routine, but after lunch today, I went to take a nap around 2:15pm. I kept the CNN on. Half sleep and half awake, I heard something like “earthquake… in China.” Another while later, my cell phone started ringing. It was a friend who called to check on us after he ran out of his building because of the temblors he felt from the 12th floor. The husband also felt it and didn’t take it too seriously. I must have made the unconscious arrangement to sleep through the thing.

A few minutes later, we know there was an earthquake in Sichuan province, one of the most populated areas in the country. It must be so powerful. Even in Beijing, over 1,500 Km away, you could feel it. I wished it happened somewhere deep in the mountains. Someone reminded me that people do live in those mountains. Then the news started to come in. The death toll started to climb. My tears poured out late at night when I saw on TV that they pulled out a girl Sienna’s age under concrete debris.

Earlier yesterday, I was saying said something like, “the spring has returned to the earth.” "No, Mommy," Sienna corrected, "some parts of the earth are not in spring." Today, she learnt that the earth could get so angry, it shocked up a little bit and caused tremendous sufferings to us human beings.
