A Dangerous World Out There
Last weekend, as I was sitting on the beach trying to avoid sun shines, I got a text message that reads, “Sis Zheng, here is the account No.: XXX… Liu Zhimin.” I don’t know the sender’s name or recognize the number. But he seemed to know mine. Sis in China is like Ms as salutation.
My first reaction was that the husband bought something from him and I needed to pay this person using the account no. he gave. When that was confirmed to be not the case, I sent text message back and asked, “What is this about?” No reply. I shouldn’t even have done that. Today, I called the number that originated the text message without revealing my number, somebody picked up the phone but didn’t utter a word while waiting for me to go the first. I hang up without saying a word.
I believed this was one of those many attempts to randomly pick scam victims. Quite a dangerous world out there. My friend one day got a call from someone pretending to be his cousin. The guy even called back the next day to chat more, then he abruptly hang up when he sensed there was nowhere to go further.
