Running a Campaign

Mookie was off the bottom 3 as he should be in the first place. Big relief. Everything must have helped including the endorsement of the Mayor David Miller. I got the email from Toronto about his endorsement last Friday. Immediately, I bounced the email back to everyone I know in Canada. Some of the emails got averted somewhere else. I got an email from San Francisco Airport, where a friend was making a transfer with her whole traveling family. They promised they would vote for Mookie when they got back to Toronto.

I kept pushing everybody. One of my former colleagues replied, “We are all supporting Mookie. Even the Mayor is on it. What more do you want? Now all you can do is put a sign in the Olympic stadium.” I heard she was basically saying, “You get yourself a life in China.” Still, I said, “I will consider your suggestion.”

Having one child is really not enough for someone like me. That’s why I had helped organize bowling birthday parties, attended hockey practice and participated in school projects of my friend’s children. Recently, I even went for a parents’ conference on behalf of my friends. How could I miss being part of Mookie’s becoming the next Canadian Idol? If it weren’t because of my 17-year-old nephew was in the house, I might have been back in Toronto already.

My 13-year-old friend Rachel has been diligently voting and voting. I wrote to express my gratitude, “I am looking forward to working in your campaign of some sort. No pressure here. Just an expression to show you how much I love be part of everybody's growing up. That's how I keep growing up while growing old.”
