santa claus is coming to town
i don't think we can get away without having a christmas tree this year.
our intention had been not to set up one in the house, as least for another year. I am not a holiday person. Every day, I get excited by life itself. So holidays don't particularly excite me. i thought i could tell sienna "you should treat each day as a holiday." I could tell her right from the beginning that Santa is a fairy tale character. I could also tell her "not everybody celebrates christmas, look at jordan, look at theadora -- Jewish people see their god differently. and we chinese don't see a god at all..."
my preachings will be put on hold as "Santa Claus is (indeed!) coming to town." For Sienna, it's a given fact that Santa is bringing each kid a present according to her/his wish and we had better get a christmas tree ready for him to lay a present under. "Mommy, just a little one in my room." Said Sienna, and she also wants it to snow because that's definitely Santa's preferred weather for his gift mission. As far as what she wants from santa, Sienna is very specific.
Sienna: a little pink heart.
Mommy: why that?
Sienna: It's so beautiful. I can put it on my hand and look at it.
Mommy: I remember you had a necklace like that before. sister Minnie and April gave one to you.
Sienna: i know, but i lost it. I really like it.
My point is that you don't have to have what everybody has or what a lot of people have. I think christmas is a good time to make that point. i will still try to make my point whenver i can. but the christmas lights will be shining inside and out of our house this year. And my mission started yesterday to search for that pink heart necklace.
