Happiness Is A Decision One Makes

A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud lady, who is legally blind, moved to a nursing home after her husband of 70 years recently passed away.

After hours of waiting, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready. As she managed herself to get to the elevator, somebody leading her provided a visual description of her tiny room...

"I love it," she stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having
just been presented with a new puppy. "But..., you haven't seen the room.... just wait." "That doesn't have anything to do with it," she followed up with a statement that has become my quote of the day.

"Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time...," she replied.

Something to ponder about my own life. About big things in life, I never really made enough conscious decision ahead of time: What kind of man I should be married to? What kind of job that I would love to do? Where would be a nice place to live, to work and to raise children? It feels like I have always been placed somewhere with somebody to do something.

Is it my luck in life ? Is it my inner capacity to accept life as it comes? Or both? Every time the situation seemed to be turning out fine. Of course, there are flaws, big or small, in every situation. Then I say the flaws come in the same package or any package. I deal with them as I would anywhere with anyone, anyways. As I age, I am not sure if I will be better off at making more conscious decisions. But from time to time though, I will remind myself how this 92-year-old decides about her own happiness, consciously and unconditionally.

  • Hey.. Min,
Wat a very nice way to look at it.. :)
Unfortunately.. for me.. i plan ahead of time.. but am sometimes too rash in my decision.. unlike my spouse.. he takes things as it comes.. and not worry about it too much. I feel it can be less stressful at times... but am unable to achieve his state of mind.. all these years.. :(
But yes.. i always wanna be happy.. in any situation i'm put in.. and hope to adopt.. this 92yr old lady's positive thinking.. :)
    Thanks for sharing.. :)
