A Nap in the Car
Supposedly, Sienna still takes a nap at school everyday. A nap is difficult on Saturday but very necessary as it's usually a long day and a long evening. We always have dinners with friends or have other activities. Since napping at home in her own bed has been a thing of the past for a long time, I resort to "rocking" her to sleep by driving around the town. I never needed to rock her to sleep though at night. Today the mission was especially necessary because Daddy was away. I intended to keep her away from home as long as I could.
It was a beautiful and bright day. First I drove her east along the S Avenue to avoid the beaming sun setting down. I had her favourite Track 5 of Yo-Yo Ma's "Obrigado Brazil" playing. My experience told me if she didn't remind me to play it again, that would mean she fell asleep. But she kept reminding me to replay it and replay it, for like 32 times. And Track 1 was also requested for a number of times. She did not, however, ask for anything else in the world. She was humming along or remained quiet. She was just listening to Yo-Yo Ma. So anything I asked of her, I could only pray for.
It became cloudy. I made a turn to drive back westwards. Still no sign of her quitting Yo-Yo Ma. I figured if she didn't fall asleep on her booster seat, I would doze off myself behind the wheel. This mother was so determined that afternoon. I drove through Tim Horton to get a caffeine shake-up. And then I was driving eastwards, again.
A couple of hours, a few dozens of miles and half a tank of gas later, I noticed the CD was playing on Track 8. "Horay, I did it!" By then, it was no longer sunny or cloudy, it became foggy. By then, it was no longer day, it became dark. With Sienna sound asleep, I headed north to pick up my friend's daughter Rachel who was just finishing up her music class.
So, a nap in the car, it was a mission well accomplished.
