Takes More Than Love
Watched a documentary "My Flesh and Blood" last night. A single mother of two, Susan Tom, expanded her family with 11 adopted special needs children. Two of them are without legs, some of them physically deformed and others suffer from diseases and disabilites of various kinds. Living in a modest home in California, she is a spirited mother whose love knows no bounds. The most respected quality though is how she remains cool and calm facing her daily challenges that would crush most people. It's easier to give love, I think. The much harder part is to see your loved ones suffer. I shake when I see blood. And I couldn't sleep a wink when Sienna placed a bead in her ear that did't even hurt her. I would have long become a mental case myself in the Tom's household. Just an affecting film to watch and ponder about parenthood from an extrem case like that.
