A Toy That Is Not

She lives for the day, the biggest in the whole year for Sienna. Our little princess is turning 5 tomorrow. After dinner, I, the mighty mama, drove our on high gear for the last minute party preparation. My plan was to shop for all non-food related items this evening — decoration, loot bags and most importantly a major present for the princess.

We decide it's the time for Sienna to have her own digital camera. She has been using our camera since she was 3.5 years old. We have to keep a close eye on her. She asks for one of her own all the time, stressing, "I want a real one, not the toy kind."

At the electronic section of the Toy's R Us, a salesperson suggested of a much cheap web cam. He spent 5 minutes trying to talk me out of buying a Polaroid digital 2.0 mega pixel REAL digital camera, made for a much bigger kid. "It’s not a toy, your daughter is 5-years-old, if she drops, ..." said he. Despite his effort, that was exactly what I got. I am convinced the camera would bring her so much fun in learning about how images are constructed by observing, capturing and selecting.
