What a 5-Year-old Becomes

I got this photo in an email attachment from dear friend J and altered the images for the posting here. The guy E on the right was a little 5-year-old boy when I first met him. I landed in Canada attending a university. E's mother J was my classmate. I sublet a room in their house, that needed to be accessed through E's room. When E was supposed to be in bed at night, he came to my room to linger on. In an attempt to test my parental skill, I decided to keep this between us. I set the clock for 10 mins and asked him to return to his room when the time was up. He always obeyed this little rule. He had too. Because if he didn't leave, as I warned, I would simply call out his mom's name. And there would be no next time.

Now E is in the first year of the university himself, being a DJ at a local club and dating this beautiful girl… It made my day to look at this photo from far. I got to share the feeling of looking at a grown up son, without feeling so aged myself. Regardless of my age, I simply refuse to feel aged because my daughter is only 5 years old now.
