Riding the Rocket
After dumping almost everything and putting away the rest of the things in the storage, our personal belongings were condensed into 5 suitcases, 1 box, 2 carry-ons and 3 bags and 1 laptop. At Pearson Airport in Toronto, I looked at these and said to my friend who came to see us off, “I am pretty sure we are going to lose some of these. I will tell you which one when I get there.” Amazingly, the Liu family arrived in Beijing two days ago, missing none of the luggage or its 3 member.
At night, I immediately connected to the internet. My heart was touched when I saw my dear friend’s updated status. She is, in her words,“on a slow boat to China looking for Min”. From my perspective though, it feels like we have just been sent by a rocket to the moon – not the difficulty of it, but the significance of it.
