Meet us the Parents
I went for a scheduled meeting with the teacher at Sienna’s school. It’s all very interesting to me, being a parent and back in a culture that I grew up in. Just goes to show how that culture has been transformed over the years where I was away. I am fascinated as I try to sort out, from my perspective, what is familiar and what is new.
The teacher praised students by names, in front of their parents and others, in the 4 areas where they did very well: manner & courtesy, care for the collective environment, clean and orderly homework, participation in the class. Sienna’s name was mentioned in three of these except one about taking care of the environment.
Another thing, the teacher waved to us with a cell phone in her hand saying, “my cell phone is on 24 hours a day, you can call me any time.” Isn’t that something? That just encourages me not to call her unless it’s utterly necessary.
