Part On

Spent the first half of the day quietly at home, cleaning the house and watching TV - just as I would want to. Started preparing food around 5pm. Our friend J wanted to invite us for dinner at a restaurant. Instead, we asked her to come over and had BBQ dinner with us. I marinated beef and chicken wings with my secret recipe. Salmon was done wrapped in a foil with garlic and some grains of salt. A spicy Sichuan salad from Sienna's nanny's recipe. I also made a seafood fried rice dish with shrimp & scallops. And a fruit platter of mixed cherries and green seedless grapes. I also had almond nuts tofu for desert. But we never really got to it.

I've known J for many years except we didn't spend much time together. There are unique qualities in each of us that cannot be replaced by the other's. So we openly admire each other. This seems to be the base of our friendship. So every time we meet, we shower each other with lots of sincere compliments. I am however the quiet one. A lot of people, including my daughter Sienna, would consider me the loud one. But in front of J, I am nearly mute.

J used to be a publisher of a big community newspaper in the city. Her biggest accomplishment to me though is that she raised 4 ultra beautiful and healthy kids, 3 boys and one girl. What's even more amazing is that she never really cooked for them. I still need to figure out how she fed them. But they all played hockey and have been growing up to be fine fine human beings.

Part of the reason that I never complaint about being a parent is because of her. Summing up her parental tips, she said, kids need to feel loved by the family and friends. Additionally, they need to play some kind of competitive sport so that they can learn how to cope with gain and loss. And they will learn how to work within a team -- a very important lesson for becoming a well-balanced social being...

Good tip indeed. But each kid is so different. Right now, physically, I cannot see Sienna beyond ballet. She did kick a beach ball at home yesterday pretending it was a soccer ball.
